Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Land Registry Office.

364.

asked the Minister for Justice if in view of the delays experienced in the Land Registry Office, Dublin, he will give consideration to the establishment of a land registry office in Munster to serve the needs of the south.

Limerick East): As regards delays in the processing of applications in the Land Registry I would refer the Deputy to replies to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 75 and 76 (Volume 360, No. 6, columns 1232 and 1233) of July 1985.

As regards the establishment of a land registry office in Munster to serve the needs of the south, a study was completed in 1983 on the feasibility of decentralising the Land Registry. Conclusions reached in the study were that it was not likely that decentralisation would significantly affect the efficiency of the registry and that there would be substantial additional costs involved. I do not think that the diversion of resources to further consideration of the matter would be justified at present.
