Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Employment Appeals Tribunal.

420.

asked the Minister for Labour the reason for the delay in the setting of a hearing date for the employment appeals tribunal in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Limerick; if he is aware of the hardship being suffered due to this delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that the appeal in this case has been heard by the Employment Appeals Tribunal but that there has been a delay in completion of the decision because of the volume of cases before the tribunal and the need for it to make further inquiries about the employment status of the person concerned, which could affect the amount of any award. I note the Deputy's comment about the hardship resulting from the delay for the employee concerned. I am assured by the tribunal that its inquiries are now almost completed and that it expects to be in a position to issue its decision very shortly.
