Vol. 361 No. 4

Written Answers. - Industrial Electricity Costs.

18.

asked the Minister for Energy if he is aware of the continuing high cost of electricity to Irish industry; and if he has any plans to reduce it over a planned period.

I would refer the Deputy to the announcement of a reduction in electricity prices to industry which I made in the House on 31 January this year.

I am generally in favour of improving the relative cost of electricity to industry. I have the matter under continuing active consideration and will take advantage of any opportunity which arises for further alleviation in electricity prices. The Deputy is, no doubt, aware that the stated objective of the ESB is to keep electricity price increases below the rate of inflation and they have been achieving this since 1982.
