Vol. 361 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Gas Grid.

22.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will consider extending the national gas grid to accommodate Great Island power station to ensure the continuation of employment in that area.

The ESB has at present sufficient high efficiency plant to utilise fully any quantity of gas which might be allocated from the present gas field. In these circumstances, and as there would be significant capital cost involved in the conversion of the ESB power station at Great Island to gas, the board of the ESB has no plans to convert the Great Island power station to gas firing.
