Vol. 361 No. 4

Written Answers. - Angling Facilities.

43.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if in view of the potential of angling in tourist terms, he considers that it is appropriate to encourage the provision of angling facilities such as boats and fishing gear on the western lakes; and the incentives which are currently on offer to encourage the activity.

Under the provisions of the Fisheries Act, 1980, the fisheries boards have responsibility for the promotion, encouragement and development of angling and for the provision of such facilities and amenities for angling as they think fit. There are no incentives available from my Department or the fisheries boards for the provision of boats or fishing gear which I consider to be primarily a matter for private enterprise.
