Vol. 361 No. 4

Written Answers. - Courtown (Wexford) Harbour Development.

46.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the reason Courtown Harbour is not designated as a fisheries harbour; and if he will consider designating it a fisheries harbour immediately to enable grant aid for its development.

Apart from the five major harbours designated under the Fishery Harbour Centres Act, 1968 and 1980, harbours are not designated as fishery harbours. Grant aid for harbour development is not restricted to designated fishery harbour centres. It is the ongoing policy of my Department to make grants to local authorities in respect of harbour development when such expenditure can be economically justified in the fisheries interest.
