Vol. 361 No. 4

Written Answers. - Greencastle (Donegal) Pier Development.

47.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the reason for the delay in the commencement of work in Greencastle Pier; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A major scheme such as that approved for Greencastle, requires the preparation of a detailed work programme and agreement on financial arrangements with the county council in relation to the cost of the scheme. It is also important to ensure that the disruption of fishing activity is kept to a minimum. These matters inevitably cause some delay but I can assure the Deputy that I am equally anxious to see this scheme commence.

My Department and the Office of Public Works are, at present, completing details of the scheme with a view to early commencement of work at Greencastle.
