Vol. 361 No. 4

Written Answers. - Farm Produce Marketing.

112.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he considers it appropriate, given the need to improve the marketing of Irish farm produce, to strengthen our marketing capacity, both at the level of the promotional body and in the individual enterprise; and if he agrees that the Government should urgently concentrate its energies in this sector.

The strengthening of marketing capacity generally, including the expansion of promotional activity, is an integral part of my Department's policy designed to improve the marketing of Irish farm produce by encouraging the food industry to move more into added value consumer-type products and away from commodity trading. Grant-aiding agencies have, as part of Government policy, been asked to satisfy themselves that the marketing arrangments of individual firms seeking aid are adequate.
