Vol. 361 No. 4

Written Answers. - Slaughter House Standards.

115.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the present position in relation to the proposed legislation to regularise standards between home market abattoirs and bacon curers' premises; and when it will be introduced into the Dáil.

The existing controls in this area are based on old and complicated enactments and involve a number of Government Departments as well as other interests. The preparation of comprehensive amending legislation is a highly complex operation involving consultation with all the interests invovled. Progress in the preparation of the proposals has been slower than expected, but I intend to have the Bill before the Oireachtas as early as possible.
