Vol. 361 No. 4

Written Answers. - Mayo School.

127.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the serious over-crowding and the health hazard that exists at Breaffy national school, Castlebar, County Mayo; if she is aware of the delays being encountered by the board of management in securing approval for contract documents to be drawn for the replacement of the premises; and the steps she proposes to take to have the provision of a new school expedited.

My Department has agreed in principle to grant aid the extension of Breaffy national school, Castlebar, County Mayo, in order to provide overall accommodation of eight classrooms and a general purposes room. It is understood that a sketch scheme prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works will in the near future be submitted for my Department's approval. My Department will then be in touch with the school authorities for their agreement on the local contribution, with a view to the early preparation of the contract documents. I am requesting that the remaining stages of this project should be dealt with as quickly as possible.
