Vol. 361 No. 5

Written Answers. - RTE Reception Problem.

86.

asked the Minister for Communications if he is aware of the very poor quality of RTE reception in the Ballymacarbry area, Clonmel, County Tipperary; if he will initiate a thorough investigation with a view to an effective remedy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The improvement of reception is primarily a matter for RTE. They state that while there are no problems with receipt of sound radio programmes, they are aware of the poor quality of television service in Ballymacarbry, Clonmel, which is due to the nature of the terrain in the area. RTE say that they are proceeding to improve coverage by their services as quickly as their resources permit, but that improvements in reception in the Ballymacarbry, Clonmel, area will not be possible in the coming year.

Reception of RTE signals is generally satisfactory except in areas which are sheltered by mountainous terrain from the transmitter serving them.
