Vol. 361 No. 5

Written Answers. - Refunds of Tax.

88.

asked the Minister for Finance if the income tax refund due to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin can now be sent to him having regard to his urgent financial need and the prolonged delay that has already taken place.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer ceased employment on 31 July 1985 and submitted a tax repayment claim on the grounds of unemployment to the inspector of taxes on 11 September 1985. A cheque in settlement of the refund due was issued to the taxpayer on 31 October 1985.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a tax refund has not been granted to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; if he will now direct that this refund be paid immediately; the date on which this payment will be made; the total amount that will be refunded; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer's repayment application cannot be processed until the inspector of taxes receives the information which was requested from the taxpayer on 20 June 1985. The taxpayer's accountants wrote to the tax office on 23 July 1985, advising that the required information had been furnished but the inspector has been unable to trace receipt of it. It is regretted that, owing to an oversight, neither the taxpayer nor his accountants were so advised. The required details have now been sought again and when they are submitted the repayment application will be processed and any refund found to be due will be made as quickly as possible.
