Vol. 361 No. 13

Written Answers. - Water Recreational Facilities.

51.

asked the Minister for Finance if grant-aid is available from the EC Regional Fund for the development of marinas or water recreational facilities in western areas; and if any projects have been submitted for aid to the EC.

Projects for the development of marinas or water recreational facilities which are linked to the promotion of tourism would be eligible for aid from the European Regional Development Fund. It is a precondition of eligibility that projects must be covered by a regional development programme. The regional development programme for Ireland covers only investments which are undertaken within the public capital programme. The development of the River Shannon waterway, which included the development of tourist amenities and which was undertaken jointly by Bord Fáilte and the Office of Public Works, was grant aided by the European Regional Development Fund.
