Vol. 361 No. 13

Written Answers. - Assessment of School Practical Work.

82.

asked the Minister for Education if her Department have made a decision in relation to the assessment of practical work in physics in the second level schools throughout the country; how the assessment is to be carried out; by whom the assessment will be carried out; whether that assessment will be based on the quality of work; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The revised syllabus in leaving certificate physics places an added emphasis on practical work. The quality and the adequacy of the practical work done will be assessed, as hitherto, by the Department's inspectors in the course of school inspection. In this contest the Department have issued guidelines to schools on the recording of practical work in physics.
