Vol. 363 No. 5

Written Answers. - Public Service Wages.

34.

asked the Minister for the Public Service the wage rates payable to porters and messengers in the following categories: (a) Government Departments; (b) the Eastern Health Board; (c) local government; and (d) semi-State bodies.

The following is the information requested by the Deputy:

(a) Government Departments

Messenger (also gate porter — hall porter)

£130.34 to £137.33

*Services Attendant

£128.71 to £135.57

*Packer and Porter

£112.19 to £139.99

(*There is no ‘porter’ grade as such in the Civil Service)

Each of the above grades receive service pay ranging from 50p per week (five years) to £2 per week (20 years).

(b) Eastern Health Board

Messenger

£135.13 to £145.05

Porter

£128.83 to £138.58

(c) Local Government

In the local authority area there are no standard wage rates for porters and messengers. The grades do not exist, as such, in some authorities. The following are the rates in the Dublin area:

Dublin Corporation

Porter

£143.19 to £153.48

Messenger (also hall porter-messenger, Dublin County Council)

£139.17 to £149.38

(d) Semi-State bodies

The supply of information on these wage rates is a matter for the bodies concerned and is not readily available to me.
