Vol. 363 No. 5

Written Answers. - Breeding of Non-Pedigree Bulls.

50.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the present position regarding non-licensed and non-pedigree bulls in disadvantaged areas during the 1986 year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Control of Bulls for Breeding Act, 1985, will come into force as soon as the necessary preparations have been made and a commencement order and regulations have been drafted. It is envisaged that the regulations will provide that, for a period of three years, beef suckler herd-owners with 20 cows or less may use, under permit, good quality non-pedigree beef bulls which have passed inspection.
