Vol. 363 No. 8

Written Answers. - Energy Policy.

22.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the role he envisages for the LPG sector of the gas industry in the future development of energy policy; and if he will accept that their competitive position has been seriously eroded in recent years.

LPG has an important role to play, as part of our energy policy, in providing increased security of energy supplies by diversification of imported fuels. Although LPG has lost some ground since 1981, its market position still compares favourably with the oil industry which has declined by over 26 per cent during that time, while LPG has declined by less than 8 per cent.
