Vol. 363 No. 14

Written Answers. - County Roscommon Automatic Level Crossing.

12.

asked the Minister for Communications if he will give ministerial approval to CIE for the provision of an automatic level crossing at Barrymore, Kiltoom, Athlone, County Roscommon.

The level crossing at Barrymore is an unmanned iron-gated crossing on the Athlone-Roscommon line.

CIE intended to automate this crossing by substituting lights and bells for the gates and in that connection had applied for a ministerial order under the Transport Acts to provide for the automation. Legal difficulties, which arose in connection with the order, have been under consideration and are expected to be resolved shortly.

Last month CIE amended their application with a view to upgrading the proposed automation at Barrymore by the installation of automatically operated half-barriers. As a consequence the order will relate to a half-barrier installation.
