asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce in view of the large numbers on the unemployment register in the Clondalkin area of Dublin 22; if he will state the plans, if any, he has to attract new industry for the Clondalkin area to help to deal with this very pressing problem.

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 30 and 31 together.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority, which has statutory responsibility for the promotion of industrial development, that it is actively promoting both Tallaght and Clondalkin for suitable industrial projects.

In Tallaght the IDA have collaborated with a variety of locally organised representative groups to establish an enterprise centre in the former Telectron factory. Half of this factory has been purchased by IDA and modified to provide 17 factory units, ranging in size from 500 square feet to 3,400 square feet, which are being promoted for suitable projects. In Clondalkin four factory units, ranging in size from 3,500 square feet to 4,200 square feet, are available for suitable industrial projects.

In addition, the IDA are promoting 25 acres of land in Tallaght and two land banks comprising a total of almost 80 acres in the Clondalkin catchment area for industrial development.
