Vol. 363 No. 15

Written Answers. - County Galway Schools.

79.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the erection of a wall near a school (details supplied) in County Galway.

The chairman of the board of management of the school referred to has applied for a grant towards the cost of the provision of a block wall on the eastern side of the school. The usual boundary for a school is a post and wire fence and normally the provision of a block wall would not be grant-aided. However, a report on the matter from my Department's district professional advisers is awaited and when this is to hand a final decision will be taken by the Department and conveyed to the school authorities.

80.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date situation regarding repairs to the roof of a school (details supplied) in County Galway.

My Department has agreed to grant aid the cost of certain improvement works, including works to the roof, at the school referred to by the Deputy. The preparation of contract documents is in hands and it is expected that they will be completed in about three weeks' time. The chairman of the board of management will then be advised to invite tenders for the works and subject to receipt of a suitable tender he will be authorised to place a contract.
