Vol. 364 No. 1

Written Answers. - Wheatfield (Dublin) Detention Centre.

205.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of new jobs which will be created at Wheatfield prison, Clondalkin, County Dublin; the type of jobs involved; if recruitment for such jobs will be carried out; and if the local labour force will be given priority for such employment.

I assume that the question relates to the detention centre currently under construction at Wheatfield. It is expected that something in the region of 250 prison service personnel of various grades are likely to be needed to staff the centre when it comes into operation. Prison service personnel are recruited through open competition conducted by the Civil Service Commission and the examinations are publicly advertised from time to time.
