Vol. 364 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payment.

23.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if she has received a grant application from the Dundalk centre for counselling and personal development; the amount of any such grant; when it will be paid; in view of her predecessor's strong statements and policy regarding the importance of community rather than hospital care if she will agree that this type of centre run on a voluntary basis is very important in community care development.

An application under the scheme for grants to voluntary bodies in the social services area was received from the organisation concerned in 1985 but because of the large volume of applications received for the limited funds available it was not possible to make a grant to the organisation concerned on that occasion.

The scheme for grants will continue in 1986 with an increased allocation of £750,000 and an advertisement inviting applications will appear in the national press shortly. It will then be open to the organisation concerned to make application for a grant in the normal way.

Question No 24. re-entered for oral reply.
