Vol. 364 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Monaghan Road Grant.

38.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of the road grant allocated to Monaghan County Council for national primary roads, main roads, and county roads; and the percentage increase for the year 1986.

The road grant allocations for 1986 notified to Monaghan County Council total £2.718 million, which represents an increase of 10 per cent relative to the level of grant payments made to the local authority in 1985.

The current year's allocations were notified to the local authority under the following headings: (a) Major improvement works, £930,000; (b) Other specific improvement works, £990,000; (c) Maintenance works on national roads, £379,000; (d) Block grant, £419,000.

While, in the case of Monaghan County Council, the allocation for major improvement works relates solely to works on national primary roads, each of the other allocations refers to more than one road classification. Accordingly, information in the form requested by the Deputy will only be available when the grant payments for 1986 have been finalised in December next.
