Vol. 364 No. 2

Written Answers. - Taxable Income.

52.

Mr. Bruton

asked the Minister for Finance in respect of 1986-87 if he will state: (i) the expected value of income relieved by virtue of personal allowances, PAYE allowances and PRSI allowances; and (ii) the value of taxable income in successive tranches of size £1,000 (single) and £2,000 (married) i.e. in excess of the tax free amounts.

Assuming the exactment of this year's budget proposals the amount of income which would become taxable if the personal, employee (PAYE) and PRSI allowances were abolished is estimated at £2,200 million in a full year by reference to the income tax year 1986-87.

As regards the amounts of taxable income, the latest relevant statistics available are in respect of the income tax year 1982-83 and are contained in table 87 of the annual report of the Revenue Commissioners for the year ended 31 December 1983, a copy of which is available in the Library.
