Vol. 364 No. 2

Written Answers. - Bovine TB Eradication.

71.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if any research is being carried out at present regarding the spread of bovine TB by badgers.

Where the normal causes of disease spread do not provide adequate explanation for the persistence of TB in a particular locality it is the practice to investigate the possible role of wildlife including badgers. Such investigation is carried out under controlled conditions and usually forms part of a special programme aimed at eradicating disease in the area affected.
