Vol. 364 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tax Refund.

46.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason tax arrears have not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Meath.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that on the basis of the information available to the inspector of taxes there is no refund of tax due to the taxpayer for any year prior to 1985-86. A small underpayment arose for 1981-82 and the inspector will communicate directly with the taxpayer indicating how it is proposed to collect the tax underpaid for that year.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason the full amount of tax paid by a person (details supplied) in County Wexford for the year 1984-85 was not refunded.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer's liability for the year 1984-85 was reviewed on 1 November 1984. In the review she was granted all the allowances and reliefs to which she was entitled and a cheque in settlement of the refund due was issued to her on 6 November 1984. She was not entitled to a refund of the full amount of the tax which had been deducted from her earnings for the year because her total income for the year exceeded the aggregate of her tax-free allowances.
