Vol. 364 No. 8

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants Scheme.

91.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange to provide a grant for a second year student (details supplied) who is studying occupational therapy at St. Joseph's College, Dún Laoghaire as, due to the unemployment of his father, this student will be unable to complete his third year without grant assistance.

The course in St. Joseph's College of occupational therapy is not an approved course for the purpose of the tenure of grants under the higher education grants scheme. Accordingly, the student concerned cannot have a grant under that scheme made available to him. Apart from the funds provided for the purpose of the higher education grants scheme there are no moneys at the disposal of my Department out of which assistance could be made available to the student.
