Vol. 364 No. 8

Written Answers. - Walkinstown (Dublin) Company Closure.

95.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will make a statement concerning the dispute at the closure of a prominent building supplies firm (details supplied) in the Walkinstown area, Dublin 12.

As a result of a loss making situation over a number of years, management decided to close the Walkinstown branch of the company. This act resulted in the workers' union (ITGWU) entering into official dispute with the company at the Walkinstown branch only.

Agreement has now been reached between management and the union which provides for severance payments for the workers in the branch who have been made redundant and for the transfer of the remaining workers to other Dublin branches of the company.
