asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of persons (a) over 25 and (b) under 25, in receipt of the personal rate of unemployment assistance; and the average payment in each case.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of (a) male and (b) female recipients of unemployment assistance; and the average personal rate in each case.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 186 and 187 together.

Statistics are not maintained in a manner which would enable the information sought by the Deputy to be given. However, the Deputy may find the following data helpful.

A. Number of persons in receipt of unemployment assistance who were not claiming an increase for a qualified dependant on week-ended 31 January 1986 (the latest date for which this information is available).

The average weekly payment for all unemployment assistance recipients at December 1985 was £51.89. A breakdown is not available of the average payment of unemployment assistance to those with and those without an adult dependant or between males and females.
