Vol. 365 No. 4

Written Answers. - Roads Material Allocations.

224.

asked the Minister for Labour the amount paid to each local authority for road materials under the social employment scheme from the time of commencement of the scheme to the end of February 1986.

A breakdown of the amounts allocated to local authorities under the social employment scheme for road materials is not available. Allocations made to local authorities are based on the wages paid to employees on the project in question, increased by a percentage to cover materials and supervision.

I should add that projects sponsored by local authorities under the scheme are confined to work which would not normally be undertaken by them. It is, accordingly, unlikely that expenditure on road materials would represent a significant portion of grant aid paid under the scheme.
