Vol. 365 No. 4

Written Answers. - Promotion of Healthy Eating.

21.

asked the Minister for Health if he will provide funds for research into the effects of the present diet on the health of the population and for a campaign that will promote a more healthy diet stressing the damaging effects of food with a high fat content, additives and refined processes.

My Department is in fact funding a nutritional surveillance system, the aim of which is to monitor the diet of the population.

Information is being provided to all interests as part of the campaign to promote healthy eating. The Food Advisory Committee has produced three major reports on nutrition and diet which have been widely disseminated. In addition the Health Education Bureau routinely provides advice to the public and has recently reissued the booklet "Your Better Health Guide" which contains advice on a balanced diet and has published a booklet "Healthy Eating" which provides detailed advice about nutritional needs.
