asked the Minister for Communications the number of applications for licences for fish farming in each of the years from 1983 to 1986, inclusive; the number of these licences issued in each of the years; the name and location of the persons or company to whom the licence was issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume the Deputy is referring to applications for licences under the Foreshore Act, 1933, in respect of mariculture projects. The number of such applications received is as follows: 1983, 70; 1984, 62; 1985, 104; 1986 to date, 45.

The following foreshore licences have been issued in respect of such projects during the periods in question:
