Vol. 365 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tax Rebate.

80.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; and the reason for the delay.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer did not advise the inspector of taxes until 11 March 1986 that she had ceased employment in November 1984. Her claim for repayment of tax on the grounds of unemployment now falls to be dealt with by way of review of her tax liability for 1984-85. As the company for which she worked is in receivership, the inspector will now communicate with the receiver requesting the details which are necessary to enable the review to be carried out.

The taxpayer received a supplementary payment from the receiver in February 1986 and the tax deducted from that payment has been refunded to her.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that repayment of tax is not due for any year prior to 1985-86. All tax deducted from the taxpayer's salary in 1983-84 was refunded to him in July 1984.

A final claim for repayment of tax for 1985-86 on the grounds of unemployment was received from the taxpayer on 4 April 1986. The claim has been dealt with and a cheque in settlement of the refund due will be issued to the taxpayer as soon as possible.
