Vol. 366 No. 4

Written Answers. - EC New Zealand Imports.

145.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Agriculture the EC allocation of (a) milk (in gallons); and (b) lamb and mutton (in tonnes) for imports from New Zealand in 1986 and 1987.

There is at present a voluntary restraint agreement in operation whereby in 1986 the Community allows importation of up to 245,000 tonnes of sheep meat from New Zealand at a reduced rate of import levy.

As regards New Zealand butter, an amount of up to 79,000 tonnes is allowed to be admitted to the Community, specifically to the United Kingdom, at a reduced rate of levy in 1986. This is equivalent to the fat from approximately 400 million gallons of milk.

The position in regard to imports from New Zealand in 1987 has not yet been decided by the Community.
