Vol. 366 No. 4

Written Answers. - Legal Aid for Families.

153.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will give an estimate of the cost to the taxpayer of providing: (a) family courts presided over by a number of Circuit Court Judges; (b) support for families in distress; and (c) free legal aid required by most of the 70,000 cases we are told who need divorce.

I am not in a position at this stage to provide the estimates that are requested. Reliable estimates of the cost of implementing the recently announced Government proposals, if the proposal to amend the Constitution is approved by the people, will be possible only when the details of the implementing legislation have been finalised.
