asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the total length of the following (1) all national primary roads in the country, (2) all national secondary roads in the country (3) all regional roads in the country and (4) all the county roads; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The breakdown of the total length of the public road network and the relative importance of each classification in terms of traffic are, as follows:

As is evident from the table national primary and secondary roads carry almost one-third more traffic than county roads although in length they represent only one-seventeenth of total roads.
