Vol. 366 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cork Social Welfare Delays.

118.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if there is a "Work to Rule" in operation in the Social Welfare offices in South Mall, Cork, as Deputy Bernard Allen has received numerous complaints from the public in Cork that the welfare officers will not reply to telephone queries and will not interview people in their offices in South Mall, which is causing considerable inconvenience to the public, who are attempting to transact their business and who are being forced to telephone Dublin at their own expense to obtain information in relation to claims.

Social welfare officers of this Department accommodated at Irish Life House, South Mall, Cork, are not engaged in any form of industrial action. Telephone inquiries are being dealt with and interviews with applicants are carried out at that location in the normal manner. No complaints have been received by the Department about the service being provided by the social welfare officers concerned.
