Vol. 366 No. 5

Written Answers. - Electricity Grant.

26.

asked the Minister for Energy when an application for grant-aid towards the provision of electricity was received from a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and when a decision will be made on the matter.

An application for grant aid for connection to electricity supply under the FEOGA western package electrification scheme from the person referred to by the Deputy was received in my Department on 14 October 1985. Correspondence with the applicant was necessary in order to determine his eligibility under the scheme and this has recently been confirmed. However, the maximum number of connections to electricity supply provided for under the scheme has now been reached and consequently grant aid in respect of this application could not be approved.

A proposal to extend the new supplies element of the scheme has been submitted to the EC Commission and a decision is awaited. Pending receipt of a favourable outcome to these proposals new connections to supply cannot be grant aided under the scheme.
