Vol. 366 No. 8

Written Answers. - German Farmers' VAT Rebate.

155.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will refer to the value-added-tax refund mechanism presently being used by Germany to provide national financial aid to their farmers, at the next EC Agricultural Ministers' talks.

The 1984-85 prices agreement provided for an adaptation of Germany's green rates leading to a reduction in prices expressed in national currency and consequently lower farm incomes. In the circumstances Germany was authorised as an exceptional measure to grant a limited compensation in the form of a VAT rebate to farmers.
