Vol. 366 No. 8

Written Answers. - Decline in Law and Order.

178.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the continuing concern being expressed by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 at what she alleges to be a decline in law and order in her local area; and if he will make a statement in this respect.

Representations were made by the Deputy on behalf of the person in question some time ago. A reply was issued on 11 March 1985 stating that a person had been convicted in respect of a "mugging" attack on the person concerned and that this offender was in fact serving a sentence in respect of this offence. With regard to the crime situation in the immediate area concerned, the letter stated that a special Garda patrol had been assigned to the area. I have received no further communication in this matter.

The Garda Síochána report that there has since been a decrease in crime in this area. A neighbourhood watch scheme is in operation in the area.
