Vol. 366 No. 8

Written Answers. - PRSI Exemption.

20.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of employers who availed of the PRSI exemption for additional employees; the number which were accepted and rejected; the number of people who received employment as a result of this scheme; and if she has any plans for extending this scheme in the near future.

About 1,870 employers participated in the scheme which ended on 5 April 1986 and approximately 2,900 certificates, in respect of eligible employees, were issued. It is assumed that most of these were in fact subsequently taken on in regular employment.

Details were not recorded of employers who made inquiries about the scheme and who clearly did not satisfy the conditions. In relation to those employers to whom certificates have been issued, surveys will be carried out later this year to determine whether the conditions of the scheme have been fully satisfied. There are no plans to extend the scheme at present.
