Vol. 366 No. 8

Written Answers. - Supplementary Welfare Allowance Scheme.

27.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if she is satisfied with the operation of the supplementary welfare allowance scheme as it at present exists; if she is satisfied that it is being implemented in a fair and equitable way; and if she has any proposals to alter the scheme.

I am satisfied generally with the operation of the supplementary welfare allowance scheme, which I consider is administered in a fair and equitable manner.

My Department is reviewing the guidelines on the operation of the scheme in conjunction with the health boards and the need for alterations in the scheme will be examined in the light of this review. The future of the scheme will also be reviewed in the light of the Report of the Commission on Social Welfare.
