Vol. 366 No. 8

Written Answers. - Ballyforan (Galway) Briquette Factory.

31.

asked the Minister for Energy the up-to-date position pertaining to the proposed building of a briquette factory at Derryfadda, Ballyforan, Ballinasloe, County Galway; if he will immediately sanction the completion of the works; when he expects the factory to be completed; the capacity of the factory on completion; when he expects it to go into production; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Ballyforan briquette factory project was deferred by Bord na Móna in May 1984. The matter was reviewed in May 1985, and the decision was that the project should continue to be deferred but subject to ongoing review. The question of sanction by me does not arise at this time.

The factory as planned in 1982 would have had a capacity to produce 150,000 tonnes of briquettes per annum. In the event of the project being proceeded with at a future date the required production capacity would have to be assessed at that time.
