Vol. 366 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

56.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in processing the application for a house improvement grant on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Cavan.

Notification issued to the applicant authorising him to proceed with the work in respect of which he sought a grant for a pre-1940 dwelling, subject to the conditions of the grant scheme (other than the prior inspection requirement) applicable when he applied for the grant. In relation to his application for other categories of grants it has been necessary to clarify certain matters with him before his eligibility for such grants can be determined.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for the Environment when an inspection of a new house will be carried out so that payment of the grant can be made to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

There is no record of the receipt in the Department of an application for a new house grant from the person named at the address given. There is, however, an application from a person of the same name with a broadly similar address and in that case the file is at present with my Department's inspector. An inspection will be carried out within the next few weeks.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in processing the claim for a new house grant for a person (details supplied) in County Louth; the reason the claim took 24 weeks, that he was not advised that the building company insurance number was required, that he was only told of this after eight weeks when he phoned the Department that this information could not have been secured in another section of the Department and thereby avoiding undue delay and frustration to the applicant; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There has been no undue delay in dealing with this case. The application for a new house grant was received in the Department in the case on 11 March 1986. The applicant was subsequently requested to provide further information in support of his application. Arrangements have now been made to carry out an inspection in the case within the next two weeks.
