Vol. 366 No. 8

Written Answers. - Reconstruction Grant.

63.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a reconstruction grant approved in 1979 has never been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

A grant could not be paid in this case because, contrary to the Housing Regulations, 1980 (as amended), the work was not completed by 30 June 1981.

64.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in an inspector's visit to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who wishes to ascertain the amount which will be sanctioned to him for reconstruction grant purposes.

There has been no undue delay in this case. Notification issued to the applicant authorising him to proceed with the work in respect of which his application was made subject to the conditions of the grant scheme (other than the prior inspection requirement) applicable when he applied for the grant. The applicant has since requested an inspection and this will be carried out in the next few weeks.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a house improvement grant from the person named. However, there is an application from a person with a different christian name and from a broadly similar address. In that case, notification issued to the applicant authorising him to proceed with the work in respect of which his application was made subject to the conditions of the grant scheme (other than the prior inspection requirement) applicable when he applied. He has since requested that an inspection be carried out before work commences and this will be arranged in the next few weeks.
