The Southern Health Board does not employ opticians. Sight testing is provided by ophthalmologists and spectacles are dispensed for eligible persons by ophthalmic opticians and dispensing opticians in private practice who have entered into a contract with the health board. The number of opticians who had contracts with the Southern Health Board to supply spectacles to eligible persons in the years 1982 to 1985 is given in the following table:
