Vol. 367 No. 1

Written Answers. - Galway School.

161.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position regarding a school (details supplied) in County Galway; if he will confirm that finances for the building of this school have been included in the Book of Estimates for 1986; the amount of money included; the date on which the building will commence; any other relevant details; and if he will make a statement on this very important matter.

176.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in the provision of a school (details supplied) in County Galway; if the funds for this building are included in the 1986 Book of Estimates; if so the amount allocated; if he will direct the immediate commencement of the project; and if he will make a statement on this urgent, important matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 161 and 176 together.

My Department has completed its examination of the bills of quantities and will issue approval shortly to the school authorities to seek tenders for the building of the school in question. Adequate finance is available to meet whatever payments fall due to be made by my Department in relation to this project, but a specific amount has not been allocated for the project within the Department's overall expenditure budget. It is not the practice to disclose the capital cost of projects at voluntary secondary schools which are private institutions.

It would not be possible at this stage to indicate when construction of the new school will be commenced.
