Vol. 367 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oral Irish Examinations.

16.

asked the Minister for Education whether an inspector from his Department stated that the Teacher's Union of Ireland had agreed to the taping of oral Irish candidates in 1986; if this statement was reiterated at a subsequent examiners' conference when the Teachers' Union of Ireland had clearly stated to his Department that the union did not agree to the taping of students; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I accept that the Teachers' Union of Ireland did not agree to the taping of oral Irish candidates in 1986. If an official of my Department made the statement referred to by the Deputy, it was due to a misunderstanding and is regretted.
