Vol. 367 No. 1

Written Answers. - Food Research Centre.

154.

asked the Minister for Agriculture where and when the new food research centre to be set up by AFT in conjuction with IIRS will be located; the number of research workers to be employed; the nature and type of the projects to be undertaken; if an ideal site for such a project would be the National Agriculture Research Centre, Moorpark, Fermoy, County Cork; and if he is aware that the Bord Bainne National Laboratory is sited on the same site, which must be an added advantage in agreeing to Moorpark, Fermoy, as the site for this new proposed research centre.

The matter of rationalising food research activities has been the subject of discussions between the managements of AFT and the IIRS and a preliminary outline of arrangements designed to achieve it has been drawn up by them. These preliminary proposals will require further consideration by both organisations and by the Department concerned. The question of the location of a new food research centre does not, therefore, arise at this stage.
