Vol. 367 No. 8

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payment.

174.

asked the Minister for Labour when payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Carlow, as a result of a redundancy claim as he is currently awaiting the payment of the balance of redundacy moneys holiday pay and pay in lieu of notice.

The employee concerned was paid a statutory redundancy lump sum of £643.70 by my Department from the redundancy and employers' insolvency fund on 9 October 1985. This was the equivalent of five week's gross pay calculated in accordance with the provisions of the Redundancy Payments Acts 1967 to 1984, and based on the information supplied by the reciever of the company in which the person was employed concerning his age, service and normal weekly pay. My Department is not aware of any balance of redundancy lump sum due in this case.

So far as other payments to the employee are concerned, an application under the Protection of Employees (Employers' Insolvency) Act, 1984 has been received from the receiver of the company for funds to pay minimum notice awards and holiday pay entitlements to former employees including the person named by the Deputy. My Department has been in correspondence with the receiver for clarification of the application which is expected to be received within the next few days. This should enable my Department to make an early payment to the receiver for disbursement to the former employees of the company in respect of their minimum notice awards and outstanding holiday pay.
